Frozen Pipes:

  • Pipes can freeze when temperatures drop below freezing, especially if they are exposed to cold air in uninsulated areas like basements, attics, or exterior walls.

  • To prevent pipes from freezing:

    • Insulate pipes using foam sleeves or heat tape.

    • Keep a slow drip of water running through faucets connected to vulnerable pipes.

    • Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around pipes.

    • Maintain a consistent indoor temperature, even at night.

  • If a pipe does freeze, turn off the main water supply and gently thaw the pipe using a hairdryer or warm towels. Avoid using open flames.

Road Conditions:

  • Snow and ice can make roads slippery and dangerous.

  • To stay safe while driving:

    • Drive slowly and increase following distance.

    • Use winter tires or chains if required.

    • Keep your vehicle’s gas tank at least half full to avoid fuel line freeze.

    • Clear snow and ice from all windows, mirrors, and lights before driving.

    • Be cautious on bridges and overpasses as they freeze faster than other road surfaces.

  • Stay updated on weather and road conditions through local news or transportation department websites.
